Subject: From Carlos Latuff to President Ismael Haniyyeh
Dear President Ismael Haniyyeh,
My name is Carlos Latuff, Brazilian cartoonist, and I write
you as an artist who, since a visit to West Bank in 1999, is
creating and spreading around the world cartoons on behalf
of the Palestinian people and their struggle against U.S.
backed Israel's state terrorism. I'm deeply concerned
regarding decision of Hamas government in Gaza ordering
imprison of the cartoonist of Al Ayam newspaper Mr. Baha
Boukhari and the editor-in-chief Akram Hanayha for 6 months.
As you know, Mr. Boukhari has made a great contribution for
the Palestinian cause with his cartoons, which depict the
suffering and resistance of Palestinian people and
denunciating the Israeli war crimes, in the best tradition
of Naji al ali. In spite of his political views regarding
Palestinian internal affairs, I respectfully urge you to
reconsider this decision and drop any charges against Mr.
Boukhari and Mr. Hanayha, in light of the freedom of speech
and human rights.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely yours,
Carlos Latuff
