The Algerian cartoonist Djamel Ghanem to be absolved

Algerian media reported that the Misdemeanor Court in the city of Oran, on Tuesday, March 11, 2014, absolved the cartoonist Djamel Ghanem of the charges of insulting the President and dishonesty, on the background of a complaint filed by the management of the newspaper where he was working for years.
His lawyer "Ghanem" said to the media, "The court absolved my client Djamel Ghanem. This is justice in this file that contained numerous violations! I'm so happy!"
The case of Djamel Ghanem had received much global attention and solidarity campaigns by a number of organizations defending human rights and freedom of expression due to the strangeness of the charges and the body that filed the case.
On February 12, 2014, the Algerian prosecutor claimed the imprisonment of Djamel Ghanem for 18 months in addition to a fine.
Djamel Ghanem has been attacked by unknown people on February 2014, therefore he was taken to the hospital, so she National Union of Algerian Journalists claimed to open an investigation about the attack, noting that Djamel Ghanem was at the heart of "legal and journalistic scandal that will remain a black spot in the history of the press and national justice", stressing that the cartoonist "was a victim of unique betrayal by the newspaper where he was working for years."
Upon the acquittal, Djamel Ghanem thanked, on his facebook page, the international organizations which supported him in his case, such as Reporters Without Borders, and Amnesty.
The case of Ghanem coincides with another case in which the blogger Abdel Ghani Elwy was imprisoned several months ago because of publishing cartoons on his Facebook page in which he was mocking at the President Bouteflika and his prime minister, therefore the Algerian forces searched his house to find a scarf on which he wrote "There is no god but Allah" to be an accusation of glorifying the terrorism!
